The species is native to Maine, but also introduced from Europe, much like Stinging Nettle (Urtica diolica).

Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum) - This species is native to China, but is cultivated nearly globally and is popular in several Asian cuisines. The plants are larger then “regular” chives and bloom much later in the season with large white flowers. They are easy to grow and will self-sow if conditions are favorable. Hardy tp zone 3. Produces best in full sun and rich soil, but will do fine in part shade and/or weak soil. Seeds don’t require stratification, but starting early indoors will help them get to a harvestable size faster.
