This is as close as we get to a native cactus in Maine (with wild populations as close as New Hampshire). It’s not surprising that this is also the most reliable cactus to grow outdoors in Maine. Full sun and good drainage are recommended. These tough cacti have seen 8 winters in my garden, which in many years means being entirely encased in ice.
