Goumi (Elaeagnus multiflora) Plant or Seeds

from $5.00

2 year old seedling 6”-12” tall, mixed seedlings of ‘Red Gem’, ‘Sweet Scarlet’ and ‘Carmine’

Seed packet contains 1 tsp of seed, 30+ seeds

Goumi (Elaeagnus multiflora), this cousin of Autumn Olive makes larger, sweeter fruit with a great texture, while also fixing nitrogen and looks good while doing it. Unlike Autumn Olive they do not appear to be invasive (the seeds are actually quite tricky to germinate). Best production in full sun, but will produce in part shade. Tolerates very weak soil and drought.

Goumi seed can be annoying to germinate and sometimes just never shows up. Plant fresh seeds ASAP. Protect from rodents and leave in cold through the winter, seeds should germinate in spring, but may take 2 winters. I’ve had best results by storing in the fridge 2-3 weeks on harvest, then returning to summer conditions then storing cold starting in late october/november until april or may.
