Hemlock Water Parsnip (Sium suave)

from $3.50

Note: Germination test on this seed is pending! I didn’t start it when i should have and it needs 60 days of stratification.

Seed Packet is 1/4 tsp, seed count coming soon! 1 seed propagated 1 year old plant.

Clumping herbaceous perennial root vegetable. Grows big clumps of narrow starchy rooms reminiscent of Parsnip, you can dig up the plant, harvest a bunch of roots and replant the crown to keep growing. If you are familiar with Skirret (Sium sisarum), this plant is very similar, just the local species. Native to so called Maine, as well as almost all of Turtle Island / North America. Grows best in full sun and wet soil (including flooded areas), but tolerates part-shade and moderate moisture soils. Unknown ecotype, but probably a mid-west ecotype.
