Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) Plants
Rhizome with at least one bud.
This near native (closest wild populations in VT) makes a nice ground cover in many shade and part shade spots, including tricky ones like under pines. These plants do produce an edible fruit, however the skins and seeds are toxic and the fruit must be ripe when picked. Plants spread at a moderate pace by rhizome, occasionally faster if conditions are optimal.
