Apple (Malus domestica) Scions / Grafted trees - 4 Cultivars

from $5.00

I have lots of most of these scions, if you want 10+ of any variety please contact me about bulk pricing. Also contact me if something you want appears out of stock.

One 10" long piece of scion wood for grafting. Most scions are roughly pencil thickness, if you want a particular size please let me know and I will see what I can do. Grafted trees are 24”+ tall and grafted this year on Anatovka standard roots.

Starkey - This local variety was the standout winner of 2019 at my house. Large, very tasty fruit with minimal damage from insects. Starkey originated on the farm of Moses Starkey in Vassalboro, Maine in the mid-1800s, while semi-lost for many years, they where re-introduced by John Bunker, read the story HERE

"Wealthy" Apple (Malus domestica). Wealthy is one of my favorite apples. They have numerous virtues. First of all, they are super delicious, next it is disease resistant. Other awesome things include being naturally semi-dwarf and early bearing. Such a good apple!

“I-95” Found by Jack Kertesz on the edge of I-95 several years ago in a planting of ornamental crabs, one crab died at the graft and the rootstock suckered up and reached fruiting size. The original tree has been removed by the DOT, but the genetics live on in at least one local orchard. This tree reliably produces disease free, insect damage free fruit in a no spray orchard. The flavor is very good, at least on par with "Liberty", although i am terrible at describing flavors. The only problem (if you want to call it that), is this apple has inherited the trait of "cardboardyness" from it's presumed parent "Red Delicious", meaning that after chewing up a bite you are left with a almost fibrous lump of apple material, it didn't detract from my eating experience, but it is worth mentioning. Thanks to Tom Vigue for the original scion and the photo of the fruit laden tree.

‘Milden’ aka ‘Milding’ - a classic New England apple, known for late ripening and excellent storage capacity. Great all purpose apple.

‘Winter Fameuse’ - A sport of the once common ‘Fameuse’ (aka ‘Snow’), this variety is said to have better storage qualities with the same delicious flavor. Susceptible to scab, but hasn’t been a deal breaker in my experience.
