Shellbark Hickory (Carya laciniosa) and Northern Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) Plants

from $10.00

Northern Pecan (Carya illinoinensis)

1 year old seedlings 4-6” tall (plus large tap roots)

Selected by Burnt Ridge Nursery from the Northern most range of native pecan in Illinois, I would consider these experimental in Maine, but probably reliable in most places south of here. Like paw paw and persimmon, Pecans should be fine hardiness wise in all but the coldest areas of Maine, but might not ripen due to lack of summer heat… although there seems to be more heat each summer, so that may not be an issue by the time these start bearing nuts, which usually takes about 10 years, sometime more. Plant 2+ for pollination.

Shellbark Hickory (Carya laciniosa)

1 year old seedlings 3-4” tall (plus large tap roots)

Hardier relative of the Pecan. Hardy tough trees bear nuts so tasty they are sometimes called the Kingnut. Plant at least 2 for pollination. Expect to be patient, Carya species tend to be slow to bear fruit.
