'Stephe' Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) seed packet
A packet contains ¼ tsp seed, about 320.
Developed in Norway, this yellow blooming, white seeded Quinoa variety is adapted to northern climates and their short season and shifting day length. Quinoa can be direct seeded after danger of frost, or started indoors a few week ahead of the last frost. If starting in pots, it is important to avoid letting the plants get root bound, as they can shift into flowering mode easily and this will limit productivity. Quinoa is adaptable to many different soil conditions. I spaced my plants about 18” which worked pretty well. Wider spacing might be beneficial in rich soils, or tighter in weak soils. Bird predation may be an issue. I didn’t have any issues with mold, but this is a common problem with Quinoa in places with high humidity or lots of rain around the time of seed ripening.
