Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum spp.) - 3 Species - Seeds/Plants

from $2.50

Mountain Mints are Mint relatives that often has a minty taste, but are much less prone to take over in a garden setting. They tend to be upright clumping perennials with pretty flowers that are attractive to a wide variety of pollinators. All 3 species I offer are native to the North-East.

Virginia Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum virginianum) The flavor of this species is somewhat minty, but perhaps a bit spicier. The flowers are abundant and very attractive to pollinators. Maine native. A packet contains 1/5 tsp, ~1,200 seeds

Hoary Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum incanum) One of my favorite mountainmints! Has a great flavor, like most mountain mints the flavor is “mintier then mint” and attracts tons of pollinators. What makes this species stand out to me is that they are less spready then others and the flowers are showier. They are near native here (reaching their northern limit in so called New Hampshire). Sun or Part Shade on well drained soil, tolerates weak soils and drought. A packet contains 1/7tsp seed.

Clustered Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) One of my favorite flavors, it's mintier then mint! They grow much more upright then most Mentha species and while they does spread by rhizome, they are much less liable to take over. Their glossy green leaves turn dusky white at the top when they starts blooming, attracting a large variety of pollinators. To cap it all off, they are native here in Maine.
