Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) / Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) Plant or Seeds

from $2.75

A packet contains 1/5 teaspoon of seed, ~2,000 (tiny) seeds.

1 well established, but fairly small seed propagated plant.

Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) - This woodland or meadow wild flower thrives in damp conditions in sun or partial shade, will even tolerate pretty dense shade. Likely to self-seed in favorable conditions. Plants are fairly short lived, so allowing self-sowing will keep the patch going long term.

Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) these beautiful wildflowers thrive in damp spots in full sun to part shade, often found along waterways. They are quite attractive to hummingbirds. Plants are fairly short lived, so allowing self-sowing will keep the patch going long term. These are local ecotype seeds grown at Edgewood Nursery, original stock came from the Wild Seed Project and wild seeds collected in NH.

These tiny seeds require 60+ days cold damp stratification. Planting outdoors in fall/winter recommended, but artificial stratification in the fridge can work too. Surface sow as the seeds are tiny. For more info on stratification click here
