Golden Groundsel (Packera aurea) and New England Groundsel (Packera schweinitziana) seed packet

from $3.50

Golden Groundsel (Packera aurea)

Packet contains ¼ tsp of seeds. Seed count coming soon.

Golden Groungsel (Packera aurea) is a native groundcover with very pretty flowers. They are very adaptable, but prefer more moisture in full sun. They spread pretty quickly, which is nice if you want cover an area, but can become an issue if planted too close to similar sized plants that that can’t compete. I’m growing this one in a shadier spot to slow their growth a bit.

Surface sow in fall or winter or cold+damp stratify 60+ days, for more info on stratification click here

New England Groundsel (Packera schweinitziana)

New England groundsel

Packet contains 1/7 tsp seed, about 340 seeds. Very limited supply, should have more next year.

(Packera schweinitziana) I’m excited to be offering this species for the first time! This local endemic species is gorgeous, easy to grow and virtually absent from cultivation. While similar to Golden Groundsell (Packera aurea) they seem to spread less by rhizome and tolerate shady positions less. Despite being a species usually found it wetlands, they came through this extreme drought just fine with a single watering, meaning they are much more tolerant of dry conditions then i would expect. They self-sow pretty well, so deadheading is recommended if you don’t want them to spread. Blooms for most of June.
