Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum) / Witches Garlic (Allium carinatum) Seed Packet or Plants)

from $3.00

Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum)

A packet contains 1/5tsp, ~150 seeds.

1 small clump of small plants.

Native to the North American prairies, this hardy little onion withstands all sorts of conditions while still producing tasty leaves, flowers and surprisingly large edible bulbs.

Seeds should be sown in fall or winter or artificially cold stratified for 60+ days before sowing. Starting indoors is nice as alliums can be a bit slow to establish and are easy to lose if direct sown. Barely cover seeds. For more info on stratification click here

Nodding Onion is easily grown in full sun in most soil conditions, will tolerate pt. Shade, weak soil and weed competition. Single plants grow into tight clumps in 1-2 seasons, from there they can be easily divided to expand the patch or share with friends. Makes a very nice edimental garden border. Prone to self-seeding if open space is available.

Witches Garlic (Allium carinatum) A packet contains 1/7tsp, seed count coming soon. This is the first year i am offering seed, I don’t have a lot available, if it is popular I will try to make more available next year.

This European species is uncommon as a ornamental and also has a history of use as a edible. The flowers of this species are a dark purple with a neat curving form, reminiscent of a firework. They grow easily in most well drained soils in full sun to part shade. Germinates at cool temps, so sow fall-spring outdoors and be patient for sprouts to pop up.
